Some scholarships are awarded at the time of admissions. You will be notified of your selection for these awards by the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships. All other scholarships at UNI require the completion of the UNI Scholarship Application. The application is available leading into the students senior year of high school. Incoming students must apply to UNI before they are eligible to apply for scholarships.

These scholarships are awarded at the time of admissions and do not require an application. Admissions scholarships can be stacked within the award. For example, a student could receive the Out-of-State Scholars Award, Provost Scholars Award, Good Neighbor Award, AND Out-of-State Legacy Scholar Award if they qualified for each of those awards.
All scholarships require continuous, full-time enrollment for renewal.
Distinguished Scholars Award: Available to Iowa residents, new high school graduates. Renewable with a 2.5 cumulative GPA or higher. Three levels of annual awards:
- Level 1: $2,000/year ($8,000 total), minimum 3.7 GPA, 27+ ACT (SAT EWR+M 1260+)
- Level 2: $1,500/year ($6,000 total), minimum 3.5 GPA, 25+ ACT (SAT EWR+M 1200+)
- Level 3: $1,000/year ($4,000 total), minimum 3.3 GPA, 23+ ACT (SAT EWR+M 1130+)
- If applicants do not meet the minimum GPA and test score, they can qualify for the $1,000 level with a RAI score of 320 or higher
UNI Academic Award (NEW for students entering UNI for Fall 2019): Available to Iowa residents, new high school graduates. Renewable with a 2.5 cumulative GPA or higher. The UNI Academic Award is not awarded in conjunction with the Distinguished Scholars Award.
- The amount is $750/year ($3,000 total); to be eligible, students will have a minimum 3.7 GPA and an ACT of 21 or 22.
UNI-T.E.D. Scholarship (NEW for students entering UNI for Fall 2019): The UNI-T.E.D.(UNIfying Through Excellence & Diversity) Scholarship is awarded to new freshman students after admission and can range from $500 - $2,000 annually. Students must qualify based on academic merit, however the award amount may increase if the student demonstrates financial need. This scholarship may be renewable for up to four years with a 2.5 cumulative GPA or higher. To qualify, students must meet one of the following:
- From a traditionally underrepresented population (African American/Black, Hispanic/Latino, Alaskan Native or American Indian, Asian American, Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander, or Multiracial)
- First-generation college students (neither parent has received a bachelor's degree)
- Have participated in a TRIO program.
Out-of-State Scholars Award: Available to out of state, non-residents new from high school. Renewable with a 2.5 cumulative GPA or higher. Three levels of annual awards:
- Level 1: $3,000/year ($12,000 total), minimum 3.6 GPA, 25+ ACT (SAT EWR+M 1200+)
- Level 2: $2,000/year ($8,000 total), minimum 3.3 GPA, 23+ ACT (SAT EWR+M 1130+)
- Level 3: $1,000/year ($4,000 total), minimum 3.0 GPA, 20+ ACT (SAT EWR+M 1020+)
Good Neighbor Award: New freshmen and transfer students from any county that borders the state of Iowa or Henry County, IL are eligible to receive a $4,000 total award. This $1,000/year scholarship is renewable with a 2.5 cumulative GPA or higher.
Out-of-State Legacy Scholar Award: Out of state, non-residents new from high school that have had a parent, grandparent, or sibling who graduated from UNI or a sibling currently enrolled at UNI are eligible for this $1,000 renewable award. This scholarship is renewable with a 2.5 cumulative GPA or higher.

UNI Residents of Iowa Scholars of Excellence (UNI RISE) Award
Be an Iowa resident entering UNI directly from high school
Have an ethnic or racial status of African American/Black, Hispanic/Latino, Alaskan Native or American Indian, Asian, Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander
Have an ACT composite score of 23 or higher, or SAT combined EWR+M of 1140 or higher
Students who do not meet the ACT or SAT score may be considered if they have a Regents Admissions Index (RAI) score of 290 or higher
Demonstrated involvement in activities outside of the classroom, which could include community service, and display leadership or potential for future leadership
Apply for admission and submit the UNI Scholarship Application by January 15.
Approximately 25 students are awarded yearly
You may also be eligible for need-based and non-need-based scholarships from other sources. Begin your search while in high school and apply for any scholarship which you are eligible for. Ask your counselor about any hometown scholarships. Also, ask any organizations you belong to if they offer scholarships.
